Even if you have never seen them all, we can assure you that there are very particular and surprising dogs, some of them even have six toes on each paw! This is a small list with the ones that have caught our attention, the top 10 of rare dog breeds.

Bedlington terrier

They are like a sheep! White in color, with a pear-shaped head and a curly toupee. They are characterized by being very active, agile, intelligent and friendly.

Puli

A cute little ball of fur! They are dogs with so much hair that it is difficult to see what their body looks like under such a dense and wavy tangle. They get along very well with children, they are affectionate and intelligent.

Catahoula Leopard

A cross between a dog and a leopard! This breed has a beautiful spotted coat reminiscent of big cats. They are very strong and good hunters, able to climb trees to get their prey.

Xoloitzcuintle

Norwegian Lundehund

With six toes on each paw! And they can stretch their legs up to 90 degrees. This breed increased the number of toes to better grip the rocks, as they hunted puffin birds on cliffs. They are faithful, obedient, docile and very very active dogs.

Chinese Crested

The most punky dog! Their most outstanding feature is the crest on top of their head. Some have hair and others do not. They are small, between 5 and 7 kg, affectionate and friendly.

Löwchen

The little lion dog! The characteristic coat of this breed is reminiscent of a lion’s mane. They are very cheerful, friendly, intelligent, playful and very affectionate with children.

The shaggy rabbit hunter! He is a small dog of only 3 or 4 kg, with a short, black and curly coat, who likes to hunt rabbits. He is very active, affectionate and familiar.

Catalburun

A dog with a great sense of smell! Due to a genetic issue, these dogs are born with two noses, like a nose split in two. This particularity makes them great hunters.

Coonhound

A record in ears! This hound dog breed is in the Guinness Book of Records for having the largest ears in the world. They are experts in hunting raccoons.

Do you know of other rare dog breeds? We would not be surprised, since the Fédération Cynologique Internationale states that there are at least 343 dog breeds, but that the number is probably higher, since the number of breeds increases every year and not all varieties fall within a breed.
